What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word representing "Universal Life Energy", the energy which is around us. Reiki, when activated and applied for the purpose of healing, addresses body, mind and spirit. It accelerates the body's ability to heal physical ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease and pain, the necessity for taking responsibility for one's life and the joys of balanced wellness. The Usui System of Natural Healing uses Reiki in these ways.

Anyone, young or old, can give or receive Reiki because it is universal. There is no belief system involved with Reiki. People of any religious background can take Reiki with no conflict. Reiki can easily be given to one's self, too. It is the energy that surrounds us and sustains us. A Reiki channel (the giver) simply directs and concentrates the energy by placing his or her hands on specific areas of the receiver's body.

With time and practice, Reiki channels develop a high level of sensitivity that helps them be very precise in where to direct the energy and how long the treatment is needed.

Reiki is very simple. It does not require lengthy training, nor does it require specialized equipment or office space. It penetrates clothing, bandages, even casts, so there is no need for the recipient to disrobe. All one needs is a willingness to touch and be touched.

Reiki is learned in degrees. The First Degree is usually taught over a weekend. The process of learning Reiki involves what is called an Initiation or Attunement. This is an ancient ceremony that a Reiki Master performs with the students, it is a power transfer that can only be applied by a Traditionally trained Reiki Master, that opens the energy channels and finely tunes the body's electromagnetic field.

The First Degree class involves four of these ceremonies, each one gradually opens and strengthens the energy channels. The fourth attunement seals the Reiki in for life.

The Second Degree is offered to students of First Degree after a period of three months.  This allows the student to fully integrate and adjust to the new Energy level attained in the First Degree Initiations.  The Second Degree is a quantum leap into self discovery and delves deeper into the science of Reiki.  In the Second Degree students are given one more Initiation which Empowers them to use a set of three Symbols or Keys discovered by Dr. Usui.  These three sacred symbols allow the student to:
